Senior Expert Climate and Energy in Bulgaria: We are currently looking for an experienced, dynamic and committed professional to join as Senior Expert Climate and Energy, and take active part in the development, implementation and achievement of WWF Bulgaria’s strategic goals and priorities related to climate and energy.

WWF Central and Eastern Europe is responsible for leading and to a significant extent implementing WWF’s efforts to preserve, restore and sustainably manage the natural values of the Danube Carpathian ecoregion, which we also call the Green Heart of Europe. With a team of over 220 highly specialised professionals, we are working across political borders through an ecoregional approach based on model projects, influencing policy, networking, capacity building, communication and crisis response.

WWF-Bulgaria is engaged with protected territories and habitats of Europe-wide importance, forest and freshwater conservation, sustainable development of rural regions, and climate change. In the field of climate and energy, WWF Bulgaria is working for a faster, greener and fairer transition to renewable energy and economy decarbonization, as well as for climate-resilient economy and society. We are currently looking for an experienced, dynamic and committed professional to join as Senior Expert Climate and Energy, and take active part in the development, implementation and achievement of WWF Bulgaria’s strategic goals and priorities related to climate and energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the current environment and policy context, gathers the necessary data and develops proposals for the strategic goals and priorities of the organization for Climate and Energy.
  • Identify and engage the relevant stakeholders at international, national and local level, which the organization should work with for the accomplishment of the set organizational Climate and Energy strategic goals. Plan and implement key collaboration formats and maintain the ongoing working relationships.
  • Provide highly professional expertise for the planning and implementation of the Organization’s activities related to Climate and Energy, including:
    • Review and assessment of the latest science and best practices related to climate change mitigation and adaptation 
    • Assessment of the scientific knowledge about the climate change impacts in Bulgaria and the ecological and socio-economic vulnerability to these impacts
    • Stakeholder engagement, policy development, financial framework assessment and advocacy related to climate change mitigation and adaptation at the national and EU level
    • Represents the organization in relevant regional, national and international forums such as conferences, symposiums, and governmental and community meetings related to climate and energy
    • Planning and implementation of multi-partner projects and related activities in the climate and energy field
    • Act as project manager, when necessary
  • Provide highly professional expertise for the planning and implementation of the Organization’s activities related to Climate and Energy, including:
  • Review and assessment of the latest science and best practices related to climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Assessment of the scientific knowledge about the climate change impacts in Bulgaria and the ecological and socio-economic vulnerability to these impacts
  • Stakeholder engagement, policy development, financial framework assessment and advocacy related to climate change mitigation and adaptation at the national and EU level
  • Represents the organization in relevant regional, national and international forums such as conferences, symposiums, and governmental and community meetings related to climate and energy
  • Planning and implementation of multi-partner projects and related activities in the climate and energy field
  • Act as project manager, when necessary

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Higher education – master's degree in the field of social, economic or natural sciences
  • At least 5 years of professional experience on a similar position
  • Very good understanding and practice in national and/or European climate and energy policy
  • Knowledge of key institutions and sectoral stakeholders at national and European level in the field of climate and energy
  • Knowledge in the field of biodiversity safeguards and strategic spatial planning of renewable energy will be considered as a strong advantage
  • Experience in drawing-up strategies, work plans and performance monitoring systems
  • Experience in policy advocacy and interacting with different stakeholders in the field of nature conservation and climate change
  • Managerial and people management skills; ability to develop and lead a team
  • Project development skills and experience in proposal writing
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills
  • Good analytical and planning skills
  • Attention to detail, positive attitude and resilience
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Very good computer skills
